The Senior Hiking Club meets every Thursday morning at 9 AM at a different park or natural area in Lake County.  Nick Standering organizes the walks and has arranged to have Tom Yates, retired Holden horticulturist, accompany us as an interpretive guide—they don’t come any better.

This morning we explored Holden Arboretum and learned about the many treasures within.

Spiny Bear’s Britches  Native to Southern Europe  Is deer resistant

Large Leaf Magnolia tree  Has the largest simple leaf and single flower of any native plant in North America  This flower was about 6” across.

Thursday, June 21st, 9 AM we’ll meet at North Chagrin Reservation in Willoughby Hills  at Hickory Fox Trail, which is on Buttermilk Falls Parkway.  Park in Buttermilk Falls scenic parking area.

Thursday, June 28th, 9 AM we’ll meet at Penitentiary Glen Reservation in Kirtland  8686 Kirtland-Chardon Road
